Somatic Experiencing

Somatic Experiencing™ (SE) is a gentle, yet profound, therapy developed by Dr. Peter Levine that supports the resolution of trauma. This therapeutic methodology supports the nervous system’s innate intelligence and works with it to discharge incomplete survival responses that may be manifesting as trauma symptoms. SE also increases body awareness and connection, promotes healthy self-regulation, and builds inner resources that lead to emotional and neuro-biological resilience.

Expressive Arts Therapy

Expressive Arts Therapy (EAT) offers a unique multifaceted approach to building internal resources, healing emotional wounds, building insight, and processing trauma. Consisting of the branches of art therapy, music therapy, drama therapy, dance and movement therapy, and poetry therapy, EAT offers an alternative to more “traditional” talk therapies. EAT offers effective methods for externalizing feelings that may have previously seemed overwhelming, ambiguous, and intangible.  For example, paint can help ground the emotional energy and paper or canvas can help give a sense of containment so that feelings and beliefs can be worked with in a way that feels more manageable and, at times, even enjoyable. Therapeutic movement facilitates the discharge of trauma and unprocessed emotions and builds connection and awareness where there may have previously been dissociation and the experience of being “stuck”. There are so many ways EAT can be utilized to bring about healing and positive change.

EMDR

Somatic and Attachment Focused EMDR (S.A.F.E EMDR) is a form of EMDR that weaves in attachment and somatic theories. EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Repatterning) is a research supported trauma treatment that assists the nervous system in reprocessing memories from disturbing life experiences. This process can relieve symptoms of trauma such as nightmares, mood swings, obsessive thinking, panic attacks, emotional numbing, just to name a few. S.A.F.E. EMDR is gentle approach to this process that utilizes mindfulness and builds up inner resources as well.

Internal Family Systems Therapy

Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS) is an empirically-supported psychotherapeutic approach that works to create greater harmony within the multi-faceted nature of our consciousness. IFS focuses on creating healthy inner dynamics between the different “parts” of us. When our internal family of “parts” work in collaboration and with compassion and understanding of one another, greater mental balance and self-regulation is a result. Deep healing and resolution can unfold when their is greater integration, and negative core beliefs and unresolved emotions can be unburdened through IFS techniques.
